!! The FCC is Taking Steps to Wind Down the Affordable Connectivity Program !!

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) would like to inform you that the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) is expected to end this spring unless Congress appropriates additional funding. As a result, the FCC has begun taking steps to wind down the ACP. The FCC projects that households enrolled in the ACP will continue to receive the benefit on their internet service through April 2024. This date is an estimate and may change. Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP)

Blue Ridge Mountain EMC has been approved to participate in the Federal Communications Commission’s Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP), formerly known as the Emergency Broadband Benefit Program (EBB), that began May 12, 2021.

The ACP program will provide a discount of up to $30 per month (beginning March 1, 2022) for broadband services for eligible consumers. This program is temporary and will expire when the allocated funds are either exhausted or expire six months after the official end of the COVID-19 pandemic as declared by the Department of Health and Human Services.

Households eligible to receive this monthly discount must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Currently qualifies for the FCC’s Lifeline program, including those who are on Medicaid or that receive SNAP benefits
  • Currently approved for the free or reduced price school breakfast/lunch program for either the 2019-20 or 2020-21 school year
  • Experienced substantial documented loss of income since February 29, 2020 with a total household income in 2020 below $99,000 for single filers and $198,000 for joint filers
  • Received a federal Pell grant in the current award year

The ACP program is limited to one monthly service discount per eligible household.

BRMEMC does not determine eligibility; only USAC can determine eligibility. Please do not email or mail applications to the BRMEMC office. 

I've been approved. What's next?

Once you have been approved, you must complete BRMEMC's form here Affordable Connectivity Program Consent Form to let us know you've been approved. The information you provide will also assist BRMEMC with setting up your recurring monthly discount on your broadband bill.

The recurring monthly discount is up to $30. You will be responsible for the remaining balance each month.

Please note this discount is applicable for broadband service and not electric.
